Nicole M. Avena PhD.

Nicole m. Avena, PhD., is a world-renowned neuroscientist, expert in diet, nutrition, and pioneer in the field of food addiction. Her seminal research work jump-started a new field of exploration in medicine and nutrition.
She is an expert in diet during pregnancy and baby, toddler and childhood nutrition..  She received her doctorate in neuroscience and psychology from Princeton University and did her postdoctoral fellowship at The Rockefeller University in New York.  Dr. Avena is a faculty member at the New York Obesity Research Center at Columbia University.  She has published more than sixty scholarly journal articles on topics related to diet, nutrition, and overeating.  her research achievements have been honored by awards from several groups, including the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Psychological Association, and the National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Avena regularly appears on tv and radio and speaks at universities, government agencies, schools and special interest groups about her research on food, addiction and nutrition throughout the lifespan. She has appeared on the ‘Doctor Oz Show’ & ‘The Doctors’ and at numerous formal events around the country. Her wellness-series talks are designed for non-scientist audiences interested in improving health and learning about the science to do so.
